Upcoming events

So no big news on the baby front as of today. Brian's job is going alright and I have started to work from home which has really helped.

We do have a few upcoming events in the next few weeks. My first prenatal visit is scheduled for Feb 14, St. Valentine's Day! We don't know yet if Brian will be able to make it because he would have to take off work. I got a recommendation from the Bradley instructor for a good local doctor. We are also going to look into a birthing center as well.

As Brian mentioned, we heard back from the Bradley instructor and are scheduled for our first class Tuesday February 21st. We will meet weekly for the next 10 weeks and discuss all about pregnancy, labor, and birth. I'm really excited. We'll be in a class with other pregnant couples so we'll have classmates and make friends. Brian is trying to be as excited, but I think he's nervous too. We're both dealing with lots of changes, in each other and in our lives. Pray for us as we develop, day by day, into hopeful, prayerful parents. Everyone is in our prayers as always.

Blech

I'm not feeling that great. Mostly my stomach is upset and I just don't feel good. I also have a slight headache, dizzy moments, and lightheadedness. Pregnancy has set in. At this point, all I want to do is go to sleep! And we have many major projects at work which has meant late nights. I'm looking foward to about six/eight weeks when everything is supposed to get better. As happy as I am about being pregnant, this is not fun.

Getting Started

So, now that Brian and I are good and pregnant, I have been working on all the initial preparations that come with being pregnant.

Michelle, Brian's sister and the mother of three beautiful children with another soon to arrive, has kindly offered her library of pregnancy books for my perusal. My aunt Susan and Brian's sister Susan are both jumping up and down with excitement, figuratively. Brian got a book for Daddy's To Be for Christmas from his sister Susan. Talking with both my mother Anne and Brian's mom Marilyn has been a good introduction to being pregnant with many good suggestions.

My mom used to teach Bradley childbirth classes and has recommended them to me. I found the contact information for several instructors and I'm waiting to hear back. Bradley classes are 10-12 weekly sessions with lots of education about nutrition, exercise, relaxation practice, labor preparations and the actual work of labor. The classes encourage natural childbirth and breastfeeding which match my hopes for our birth experience. Brian is learning as much as he can about our options and I think this type of class would be great for us. Brian and I are already working to eat really well. Brian made me scambled eggs for breakfast today!

I remember my mom teaching her Bradley classes while she was pregnant with my brother (~ 14 years ago). She was going through the same things her students were! I want to ask the Bradley instructor which facilities in the nearby area are the best, since there are many options available to us. I need to go in and have my first prenatal visit. If I don't hear back from here today, I think I will go ahead and make an appointment anyway! I want to get off to a good start.
